Where did Gradient come from? By Tom Vladeck
The short version of the story is that I’ve always had an interest in math — I was a math major at Pomona, got a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, and studied statistics at Wharton while getting my MBA. And during my MBA, I decided that I really wanted to “do” cutting-edge statistics full time, and that to do it the way I wanted to, I had no choice but to start a company and get clients on my own.

Gradient Leaders…*
1. Are honest and integral to a fault: If we say something will be done, then it will be done. We conform our words to reality (honesty) and reality to our words (integrity).
2. Do more with less: We are frugal and look for ways to avoid spending time and money when it is not needed.
3. Think win-win: Success is not zero-sum. Our clients, partners, and vendors’ success is our success.

The Gradient Way

The purpose of this document is to lay out, to the best of our ability, the Gradient Way to working collaboratively. The Gradient Way is both a mindset and a specific orientation to how one approaches any task. We like to think that our success is due to everyone striving to adopt the Gradient Way, which—yes—sounds a tad cultish. But like any good cult will tell you, a shared paradigm is kinda essential to achieving shared objectives.
