Non-PTO Time Off Policies

The following policies reflect Gradient’s non-PTO time off. Please find the PTO policy here.

Bereavement Leave

When an employee experiences the death of a loved one, they may take bereavement leave. Bereavement leave provides time to grieve or make arrangements after the death of a personal relationship such as a family member, chosen family, close friend, miscarriage, or family pet.

Eligibility: Full time employees who have experienced a significant personal loss.
Leave Period: Up to 10 business days per incident, exact timing in consultation with leadership.
Wages: 100% of salary.

Parental Leave

Gradient offers parental leave around and after an employee welcomes a new child into their family, whether they are a birthing parent or non-birthing parent.

Birthing Parent Leave

Eligibility: Full time employees who give birth.
Leave Period: Up to 12 weeks. How this time is taken is to be aligned on in consultation with leadership—for example, the full leave period can be taken in one 12-week occurrence, split into multiple smaller periods, or be taken in full weeks at first and then part time upon return to work (with a max 12 week total period).
Wages: 100% of salary.
Benefits: Full continuation of benefits, including 401(k) matching contributions and monthly health insurance reimbursements.

Non-Birthing Parent Leave

Eligibility: Full time employees who add a new child to their family while not being a birthing parent. This covers leave for employees whose partner gives birth, employees who adopt a child, and employees who take in a foster child.
Leave Period: Up to 6 weeks. How this time is taken is to be aligned on in consultation with leadership—for example, the full leave period can be taken in one 6-week occurrence, split into multiple smaller periods, or be taken in full weeks at first and then part time upon return to work (with a max 6 week total period).
Wages: 100% of salary.
Benefits: Full continuation of benefits, including 401(k) matching contributions and monthly health insurance reimbursements.

Sick Leave and Dependent Care

If you or a loved one is ill, we want you to take care of yourself or your loved one(s). To facilitate this, you should take sick time when you need it. Sick time is meant to be used when you are ill, or to care for ill family members including your parent(s), child(ren), spouse, registered domestic partner, grandparent(s), grandchild(ren), or sibling(s).

Eligibility: Full time employees who are ill or caring for an ill family member.
Leave Period: Up to 5 consecutive business days per incident.
Wages: 100% of salary.

Short Term Disability Leave

Gradient offers a noncontributory short-term disability insurance plan for US employees that covers a portion of employee salary and goes into effect after a 7 calendar day waiting period. It is advised that all employees secure their own short term disability insurance. If, at the conclusion of the Sick Leave, a sick or disabled employee is not able to return to work, short term disability leave will need to be taken.

We strongly recommend acquiring additional supplemental short term disability insurance.

Eligibility: Full time employees who have exhausted Sick Leave and are not able to return to work.
Leave Period: Up to 26 weeks, in consultation with leadership.
Wages: Dependent on country of residence.
