Our EC2 Machines

There are a couple of EC2 machines that are running on a daily basis that provide various monitoring purposes. This page lists the machines, their credentials and their purpose. They mostly make use of Slack Notifications to inform team members of updates.

Regular Machines

Our regular machines are setup based on our baseline AMI. Too learn more about how this is done, refer to the Working with R on AWS EC2 guide.

Listing active AWS instances

  • FREE | checks running instances
  • Credentials: user: rstudio, password: i-0ae44a110b2828252
  • Purpose: runs aws ec2 describe-instances in a for loop every couple of hours and posts active instances on the #aws channel
  • Notes: if we rotate SSH keys, make sure to update the AWS credentials and start the for loop again
  • Action: pastes which AWS instances are active
  • Script: monitoring/aws.R

Qualtrics backups

Dynata collection progress

  • Credentials: user: rstudio, password: i-0ae44a110b2828252
  • Purpose: check Dynata collection progress
  • Notes: to start monitoring change qualtrics_survey_id and dynata_project_id and then run the for loop
  • Action: pastes (roughly after every 60 minutes) a current Dynata collection progress on #dynata-survey-status channel
  • Script: monitoring/dynata.R
